– Our investigation leans towards him acting alone, says New York police officer Joseph Kenny according to CNN.
Luigi Mangione, 26, is singled out as Brian Thompson’s killer. Now he has been arrested at a McDonalds restaurant in the city of Altoona in Pennsylvania, US media reports.
According to The Guardian was an employee at the fast food restaurant who recognized Mangione and alerted the police.
When Luigi Mangione was arrested, he reportedly carried a handwritten manifesto criticizing the health insurance industry. He was also reportedly found with a gun similar to the one used when UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was shot to death in New York last week, as well as several fake IDs.
Ivy League student
The 26-year-old is described as an anti-capitalist Ivy League student with an empty criminal record. He grew up in Maryland and previously lived in Hawaii. According to a police source, Mangione allegedly hated the American healthcare system because of illness in the family and how it was handled.
The man is now suspected of several crimes, including forgery of records, but is above all the main suspect for the murder of Thompson, writes NBC News.
The murder, which took place in the open street early Wednesday morning, has sparked reactions across the United States, not least among the population that is critical of the health insurance system.
