One arrested after statue coup

A man in his 50s, living in Malmö, was arrested early Tuesday morning and later arrested on suspicion of embezzlement after the theft of the Carl Millesstatyn in Trelleborg. It reports Trelleborgs Allehanda.

It is unclear if the suspected healer is the one who also stole the statue.

– I can’t say that at all at the moment. But it is remarkable that this person has had this statue in his possession, says prosecutor Mårten Petersen to the newspaper.

Scrap companies sounded the alarm

It was staff at a scrap company outside Malmö who raised the alarm after receiving a statue. When the police went to the scene, they were able to ascertain that it was the “Solglitter” statue, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.

According to Expressen, the arrested man is said to have sold the statue for scrap and received 2,650 kroner.

– As I understand it, they react when they see the news that the statue is missing, and think it reminds them of the statue they received at the scrap company. Then some time passes and then they call the police. That’s when you go there and seize the statue, says Mårten Petersen to .

The statue should be worth between 1.5 and 2 million kroner.

Disappeared outside the bathhouse

It was just over a week ago that the staff at Trelleborg’s municipality discovered that the famous Carl Millesstatyn, Solglitter, had disappeared from its place outside the bathhouse in the center of the city.

In April of this year, another copy of “Solglitter” was stolen from the hospital area in Gävle, and the municipality has suspected that an artist is behind the statue coup.

The statue is now in police custody and the work of art is to carry out an investigation, among other things to secure any traces.
