The 33-year-old man accidentally slipped and fell from a height of 6 meters while watering concrete slabs on the first floor of his home in Tiruchirappalli, India.
As he fell, an iron rod 1.5 meters long with jagged edges entered his neck and exited his throat. The man was quickly taken to the hospital and was given an emergency response.
It took a difficult three-hour operation to remove the iron rod from the 33-year-old man’s neck and save his life. During the operation, the unfortunate man suffered other complications.
“LUCKY TO BE ALIVE”
Managing the operations team, Dr. Mohamed Mansoor said the man was ‘really lucky’ to have recovered. Stating that he was brought to the hospital by his relatives fifteen minutes after the accident, Dr. Mansoor said, “In an emergency assessment, it was seen that there was a 1.5 meter long iron bar that entered the front of the neck and exited from the back of the neck. A plan was made with the team to remove the bar. “A team of experts ensured that none of the major organs or vessels in the neck were injured.”
Describing it as luck that the man survived the accident without any life-threatening damage, Dr. Mansoor warned the public against such accidents.
