Stratford’s public library is bringing a brand new Amazing Race-style event to Upper Queen’s Park this summer, so organizers are looking for families interested in taking part.
“It’s our first time trying something like this,” teen services librarian Brooke Windsor said Monday. “It’s not just for mom and dad; it’s not just for the kids – it’s for everybody to come together and play.”
The game happening on the afternoon of Aug. 13 will include 14 different challenges based on the library’s summer reading theme: myths and legends. That means dragons, mermaids and yetis will be part of the adventure.
“Some of them are funny, some of them are silly (and) some of them are very physical, so you may have to perform a wide variety of tasks,” Windsor said. “if people really like it, we would love to keep bringing it back every summer.”
Teams can be no larger than five members. All players must be at least eight years old. Those between the ages of eight and 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
The first team to successfully complete all the challenges will win a pack of prizes to take home.
“Some of my favorite memories from childhood are game nights with my extended family,” Windsor said. “I wanted to create that sort of experience for families to get together, meet other families and just bond over something fun and high energy and even silly.”
Registration for the free event is open now on the library’s website.
