After the huge success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC wanted to bring its own cinematic universe to the big screen. Where Batman, Superman and Co. were previously in separate rows, they should now be in a great story meet. Man of Steel laid the foundation for this.
In 2013, the superhero blockbuster starring Henry Cavill was released. Almost a decade later, it still hasn’t gotten a proper sequel. It’s one of the most bitter superhero failures in recent years. At the same time, Man of Steel 2 illustrates very well the chaos that has prevailed at DC for a long time.
No Man of Steel 2: DC just let Henry Cavill’s Superman die
While Marvel has taken its time slowly building its universe, it had to at DC everything goes very quickly. The next film after Man of Steel was already a crossover film, namely Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. And then the Avengers counterpart, Justice League, came within reach.

Although the films build on each other (Zack Snyder’s DC vision certainly has its charms), we have one classic Superman sequel never received. DC’s mightiest hero has only appeared as part of an ensemble since his debut, while the universe has been recalibrated several times to keep up with the competition.
Meanwhile, Man of Steel looks like a DC movie from another time and we should stop hoping that the sequel will one day be announced after all. Recently it was even said that the upcoming The Flash movie is the final nail in the coffin for Cavill’s Superman. What a waste.
The casting couldn’t be better: Cavill as Superman remains one of the best superhero casts of the 21st century. The actor himself has repeatedly stated that he would like to return in the role. However, the past few years have shown that DC no faith in the star and the character Has.
