The opposition’s distrust is making itself heard. El-Amine Ali Mbaraka Aboul-Khair, former mayor of Fomboni and supporter of federalism, discusses the reasons for the boycott. For him, it is above all a question of defending the principle of the turning point of 2001, a system guaranteeing the political stability of Comoros : “ You need to know at least two things. The first is that the Mohelians would in no way want to be accomplices in a project which aims to dismantle a system, the turning point, whose foundations are rotating power, autonomy and balance between islands. The second is to avoid giving carte blanche to Azali [Assoumani, président des Comores, NDLR] for his building of a dynasty which has not yet spoken its name. »
“ It would be a stupid cow rejoicing to be taken to a nice slaughterhouse »
An observation shared by Doctor Abdou Chakour Ahamed. For the spokesperson for the Juwa party, these elections are far from meeting the expectations of a true democratic process. “ It’s just a stupid cow who is happy to be taken to a nice slaughterhouse, he imagines. What has changed? It’s always the same thing: the same institutions, the same men. We know the result, because the result will not change: it will be the same thing. And, as long as the system of reasoning, the system of governance, does not change, nothing will change for the Comorians. They are not going to change the team that always gives them victory “.
And if within the Juwa party, certain members nevertheless chose to present themselves as independent candidates, in Mohéli, only one of the five constituencies on the island will see two candidates confront each other. In the other four, the representatives of power will have no competitor.
