On the Esplanade of the Mosques in Jerusalem, Jewish prayers challenge the “status quo”

On the Esplanade of the Mosques in Jerusalem Jewish prayers

It is one of the ultra-sensitive places of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict: the Esplanade of the Mosques for Muslims, the Temple Mount for Jews, in the Old City of Jerusalem. The status quo in force for decades prohibits – in principle – Jews from praying there. But, under pressure from Israeli religious ultranationalist movements, these prayers are becoming more and more frequent, encouraged by the Israeli Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir. Our special correspondent in Jerusalem was able to attend one of these prayers which takes place under the surveillance of the Israeli police.
