Demonstrations in support of Palestine will be organized in several European cities on Saturday, after the war in Gaza lasted for a year on Monday, October 7.

Extensive protests have been planned for the period between Saturday and Monday in London, Berlin, Paris and Rome, among others. Most of the protests take place on Saturday.

The security authorities of several countries have announced a heightened state of readiness in large cities, in case of violent demonstrations or possible terrorist threats.

Thousands of police-guarded demonstrators had gathered in London’s Russell Square at noon on Saturday. Some of the demonstrators said that they were protesting against companies and institutions such as Barclays bank or the British Museum, because they consider them “involved in the crimes of Israel”.

On October 7 of last year, the extremist organization Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. The attack killed 1,200 Israelis and took about 250 hostages.

The attack also started a bloody war that has now lasted almost a year, in which more than 40,000 people have died by the beginning of October.
