On May 1 it will be more expensive to make

The government justifies the decision by saying that the Police Authority’s passport operations are fee-financed and that the fees paid when applying for a passport must cover the costs of the operation.

“A fee increase is required so that the Police Authority can maintain the level of service and so that the deficit in passport operations does not increase,” writes the Government Office in a press release.

At the same time, the police authority is tasked with increasing cost control and efficiency in, above all, passport operations after the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority concluded in an analysis that the authority “needs to analyze the costs of passport operations to a greater extent than is done today”, according to the press release.
