It turned out that the Omicron variant of the Corona virus, which has become dominant all over the world, can remain active on plastic surfaces and human skin for much longer than previous variants.
In tests carried out by experts in a laboratory in Japan, it was revealed that the Omicron variant can remain active on plastic surfaces and human skin much longer than previous variants.
Experts also point out that the Omicron variant is more contagious for this reason.
The first detected Alpha variant had a survivability time on a plastic surface of 56 hours, compared to 114 hours in the Delta variant.
Tests have shown that the Omicron variant can survive for 193.5 hours on a plastic surface. Similarly, the Omicron variant can survive longer on human skin than other variants.
The first detected Alpha variant of COVID-19 survived 8.6 hours on human skin, compared to 16.8 hours in Delta. The Omicron variant can survive on human skin for 21.1 hours.
Experts also reaffirmed the information that all variants become inactive within 15 seconds if hands are washed or cleaned with a disinfectant and a cleanser such as cologne. For this reason, it was reminded that one of the main measures in preventing the spread of the disease is to properly clean the hands.
