Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced yesterday that schools, universities and all non-essential stores across the country will be closed from today until January 14th, adding, “I stand here tonight in a gloomy mood. To sum it up in one sentence, the Netherlands will go into quarantine again from tomorrow,” he said. Rutte emphasized that the decision to close was inevitable due to the 5th wave in the epidemic caused by the Omicron mutation.

According to the measures announced, all shops and stores, beauty centers, barbershops, hairdressers, massage parlors, tattoo shops, cinemas, museums, theaters, amusement parks, except for places such as markets, butchers, greengrocers, bakeries, pharmacies, gas stations, libraries, where basic needs are provided. and zoos will be closed.

RE-ASSESSMENT WILL BE MADE ON 3 JANUARY

Schools at all levels will remain closed from December 20 to January 9, 2022. Afterwards, a re-evaluation will be made on January 3rd.

No events will be allowed until the full shutdown ends.

The places where basic needs are provided will be able to stay open between 05.00-20.00. While professional football matches continue to be played without spectators, all sports activities inside will be stopped.

UP TO 2 GUESTS WILL BE ACCEPTED

A maximum of 2 guests from the age of 13 will be accepted in the houses, and a maximum of 2 people can be together outside. On the 24th, 25th and 26th of December, when the Christmas celebrations are held, and on New Year’s Eve, a maximum of 4 guests will be allowed inside and outside the house.

Closed restaurants and shops will be able to provide takeaway service.

Advice to work from home, social distance practice, public transportation and mask requirement in closed areas will continue.
