Omar Pène, a baobab sings the Earth

Omar Pene a baobab sings the Earth

Omar Pène, one of the “baobabs of Senegalese music” returns after eight years of absence. He celebrates his 50-year career with a new album “Climat” which makes us aware in music of the issues related to global warming.

Omar Pene is one of the leading figures of contemporary African music. Some even speak of him as the “baobab of Senegalese music”. But the youngest of his fans gathered in the AFSUD, the Amicale des Fans du Super Diamono, call him “Baye Pène”, in other words “Dad Pène”.

After 50 years of a rich career, Omar Pène will have marked Senegalese music with his style imbued with mbalax mixed with jazz, blues or rock. His latest album was rewarded in France with the Prix Coup de Coeur 2022 from the Académie Charles Cros, which was awarded to him at the Musée des Confluences in Lyon.

“Climat”, Omar Pène’s latest album, is available from Diamono Production.
