Utrecht – The Public Prosecution Service has fined three bird shelters in Utrecht, Soest and Naarden a total of 21,500 euros for abuses. According to the Public Prosecution Service, medical treatments were performed by unauthorized employees and the administration was not in order. The centers would also stock and dispense medicines that are not allowed to be present in bird centers. The shelters disagree with that reading. “Everything that happened there was done with the right intention to help animals in need,” said Jaap Baar, who represents the three shelters as a lawyer.
