OM Rennes Marseille pushes the Bretons out of its

Olympique de Marseille qualified for the round of 16 of the Coupe de France after beating Rennes by the narrowest of margins (1-0) on Friday 20 January.

23:20 – The summary of the match

OM continue their incredible series of victories and reach the knockout stages of the Coupe de France after beating Rennes (1-0). In a first period copiously dominated by OM, the Rennais were able to turn their backs and count on success. From the first minute of play, Lovro Majer tried to find his goalkeeper behind but Alexis Sanchez was prowling but was unable to find Alemdar’s frame. This was the first warning of a long series. But the biggest thrill is due to Ruslan Malinovskyi. The winter rookie from Olympique de Marseille takes on a free kick from 30 meters and finds the post of Alemdar which seemed beaten by this clear shot (10th). Also note all the breakthroughs of Nuno Tavares who was untenable in this first act. The second period does not have the same physiognomy. Rennes returns with better intentions but will paradoxically be punished on one of Marseille’s first assaults in the second act. Jordan Veretout gets the better of Lovro Majer and sends a cross to Mattéo Guendouzi who volleys to deceive Alemdar (59th). After this goal, the Bretons will struggle to react but will copiously dominate the end of the second period and lack, in turn, success in the final seconds on a center shot from Baptiste Santamaria who crashes on the bar (90th + 4). OM are the first to qualify for the knockout stages of the Coupe de France and will be able to watch the draw this Monday at 7 p.m.

What a thrill on the cages of Pau Lopez! Benjamin Bourigeaud is alone in the center but is short to take the center of his captain Hamari Traoré.

22:26 – Pau Lopez grabs the leather

Benjamin Bourigeaud takes the half volley in first intention but Pau Lopez is on the trajectory and seizes the ball in two stages. The Bretons have been growing bolder for a few minutes.

22:24 – Truffert falls on Gigot

What an opportunity for the Rennais in this OM – Rennes. Truffert has a boulevard and center but Samuel Gigot is well placed and against the young Rennes side.
