According to the Public Prosecution Service, Mohamed B. booked a one-way trip to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa last year together with a co-suspect from Utrecht, in order to travel from there to Somalia. There he wanted to join a terrorist organization affiliated with the Islamic State, such as ISS or Al-Shabaab. He had told his parents that he wanted to go to Palestine, but they discovered his real destination. They confronted their son with it and approached the municipality of Utrecht for help.
