Olympic Committee has not asked Suek to investigate Mika Lehtimäki’s case – government to discuss the matter this week

Ethics Center for Sport An external investigation into the case

The Finnish Center for Ethics in Sport is currently investigating two cases of harassment by the Olympic Committee. The case of Mika Lehtimäki, who resigned from the head of the top sports unit, is not under investigation by Suek.

The Finnish Center for Ethics in Sport is not currently conducting an inquiry into the resignation of the head of the Olympic Committee’s Top Sports Unit. Mika Lehtimäki case.

Secretary-General of Suek Teemu Japisson tells Sports that the Olympic Committee has not asked it to investigate the case.

– We do not have the authority to conduct an investigation independently. It should be requested by the Olympic Committee and has not been requested.

President of the Olympic Committee Mikko Salonen will signal to Sport that the board of the Olympic Committee will discuss the matter this week.

Urporti reported on the warning against Lehtimäki, the former head of the top sports unit, in March, and Lehtimäki resigned at the end of March.

Two more studies going on

Japisson says Suek is currently investigating two other suspected cases of harassment by the Olympic Committee related to a former member of the Olympic Committee’s board, Anni Goat River as well as a suspected case at the Tokyo Summer Olympics.

– We have been asked to take them into the investigation, Japisson says.

Japisson cannot say when the studies will be completed.

– I can’t say the exact completion schedule. The investigation is in contact with several different people. Research depends on people’s schedules and when people’s consultations are successful. Certainly they will be completed this year, but I don’t want to anticipate any more.

According to Japisson, Lehtimäki’s case would come directly to Suek if the suspected misconduct had occurred this year.

Japisson says that in early 2022, common rules for disciplining serious ethical violations in sport came into force, which have been approved by the Olympic Committee.

– There is a definition in those rules that Suek conducts an investigation as an organization.
