Petra Vlhova, who won the slalom gold at the Beijing Olympics, has not recovered from her knee injury.
Petra Vlhova will not be able to participate in next month’s World Championships. The Slovakian, who won the slalom at the Beijing Olympics, has not recovered from his knee injury, so he is now focusing on next season’s Winter Olympics.
Vlhova tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee a year ago when she crashed at the World Cup giant slalom in Jasna, Slovakia. He has not been able to compete since.
– Unfortunately, the adversities he faced in December and January have made it impossible to participate in the World Championships in Saalbach, Vlhova’s coach Mauro Pini said in the release.
– We had hoped that he could compete for medals, but that will not happen this time.
Vlhova has competed in the World Championships since 2013. At that time, he was only 17 years old. In addition to the Olympic gold, he has won six World Cup medals in his career: one gold, four silver and one bronze. The 2026 Milan-Cortina d’Ampezzo Olympics would already be Vlhova’s fourth in her career.
Vlhova has been Mikaela Shiffrin a tough competitor in slalom in recent years, but the American’s participation in the World Championships in Saalbach is also uncertain. Shiffrin crashed in the Killington slalom in November and is still recovering from stomach surgery.
