Olof Mellberg breaks the silence about the national team – that’s why he pokes fun at Sweden: “I have chosen to…”

Olof Mellberg does not intend to take over the Swedish national team.
At a press conference on Monday, he explains why.
– I have chosen to decline in order to continue in BP, he says.

Olof Mellberg is now speaking out himself after the negotiations for the job as new Swedish national team captain ran aground.
– I have had as it is, speculations and requests, during this period (the winter break). Without specifying from where. I have chosen to decline those requests in order to continue in BP, says Mellberg at a press conference.
– I cannot say anything specific (about the men’s national team). I can only confirm that I chose to decline offers because I wanted to remain in BP. That’s a definite no. I have communicated that clearly to that particular interested party.

As late as the middle of the week, there were many reasons for the former national team captain to take over after Jan Andersson. Something that several Swedish media have reported on. There was also information that Mellberg had been offered a contract proposal.

Mellberg was offered the job and was positively inclined to take it, but after negotiations with the union, he was not satisfied with several of the conditions presented by the union.
