Olivier Faure re-elected in the legislative elections? What are his chances?

Olivier Faure re elected in the legislative elections What are his

The first secretary of the Socialist Party Olivier Faure is a candidate for re-election in the 11th constituency of Seine-et-Marne. Is he the favorite in these 2024 legislative elections?

Olivier Faure is putting his mandate as deputy back into play in these legislative elections. The boss of the Socialist Party will try to win a fourth election in his constituency, the 11th of Seine-et-Marne. He is invested by the New Popular Front, this left-wing coalition that he helped build after the dissolution of the National Assembly. Will it be renewed without difficulty?

Two years ago, Olivier Faure was largely re-elected during the last legislative elections: he came first in the first round with 46.90% of the votes, more than double the score of the Macronist candidate (22.03%). . In the second round, Olivier Faure won against the candidate by winning 64.45% of the votes. The National Rally failed to qualify. Note that the constituency was marked by a strong abstention, since less than 40% of registered voters went to the polls.

The far right is making progress in the constituency

However, the results of the European elections indicate that the far right is making progress in Olivier Faure’s constituency: the National Rally list, led by Jordan Bardella, came in first with 27.92% of the votes on June 9. France Insoumise took second place with 22.54% of the vote, ahead of the Socialist Party which only collected 13.57%.

Fortunately for Olivier Faure, the agreement signed between the parties of the New Popular Front ensures him to be the only candidate of the left in these 2024 legislative elections. However, in the European elections, the four left-wing lists together collected 42.91 % of the votes in this constituency.

Note, however, that Olivier Faure will face an LR candidate supported by the RN, Vincent Paul-Petit, who could therefore capitalize on the voters of the two right-wing parties. In addition, Reconquest is not presenting a candidate in this constituency. Between them, LR, the RN and Reconquête obtained 37% of the votes in the European elections. The outcome of this legislative election will therefore largely depend on the behavior of Macronist voters and the mobilization of those who abstained on June 9.
