The world’s oldest man has passed away – aged 112.

John Tinniswood was born in 1912 in Liverpool, the same year that the Titanic sank, and lived through both world wars.

“On his last day, he was surrounded by music and love,” says the family, according to Guinness World Records.

John Tinniswood himself does not know what made his long life possible. He said he lived in moderation and indulged in fish and chips every Friday.

– I can’t think of any special secrets I have. I was quite active when I was young, I walked a lot. I don’t know if that had anything to do with it, he said earlier this year according to The Guardian.

Tinniswood became the world’s oldest living man at the age of 111, when 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez of Venezuela passed away.

The oldest man who lived, as far as is known, was the Japanese Jiroemon Kimura who lived to be 116 years old. The world’s oldest living woman is also from Japan, 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka.
