Older women are subjected to fraud – the police warn

The police are investigating several fraud and fraud attempts in Stockholm over the weekend.
Several older women are said to have gotten rid of money and jewelry.
“There are a bit of time to how active fraudsters are,” says police spokesman Nadya Norton.

Stockholm police have received several alarms about fraud and fraud attempts against older women over the weekend.

On Saturday, a notification of fraud attempts and two reports of fraud were made.

The suspected fraud attempt took place at 15.20 in Stadshagen.

-It is against a woman in her 100s. She has been called by a person who has stated to be from an insurance company, says Nadya Norton, press spokesman for the police.

However, no person came home to the woman, but the police still make a report of fraud attempts.

Claims to come from insurance companies

The two suspected fraud occurred in Vallentuna and Stadshagen, against women in their 80s and 90 years. In both cases, suspected fraudsters have come home to the women and offered to value jewelry, which women have since got rid of.

On Friday, two women in southern Stockholm got off with jewelry after being visited by people who claimed to come from an insurance company and a payment service.

The prompt: “Put on”

Nadya Norton urges the public to be skeptical of people who claim to call from banks or insurance companies.

– You state that you come from the bank and should evaluate jewelry, but that’s not how it goes. No one calls from the bank to take care of your valuables, she says and continues:

– If you have had jewelry at home for several years, no one would suddenly come and store them.

She also urges relatives of older people to talk and inform about fraud. On the police website there is advice on how to avoid being cheated.

“The best thing is to hang up when they call, not even get into the conversation,” she says.
