Old mechanics in WoW ensure that a druid dismantles his entire party

Old Stratholme proves treacherous. An ancient mechanic can still wipe out entire groups in World of Warcraft.

World of Warcraft is currently celebrating the MMORPG’s 20th birthday. One of the new features is the “Classic” time walk. Old dungeons from the Classic era can be revisited. You’ll earn Timewarped badges and solid rewards for fresh characters. But the classic mechanics in particular sometimes cause a group to be broken up.

What happened? In the WoW subreddit, player Schrogs writes that his druid “Durande” had a strange experience in the undead wing of Stratholme. Because the dungeon is actually pretty simple and hardly worth mentioning. But the group suddenly had a problem with the Banshee boss. Because the Banshee quickly took over the group’s tank with mind control – and it obediently submitted to its fate and killed all the other characters in a few seconds.

The group, which consisted largely of characters in the low 70s, had no chance against the level 80 tank with an item level of 630.

Why is that? The Banshee boss in Stratholme takes over individual characters at regular intervals. As a rule, you then quickly beat the character you have taken over until the banshee releases him again. However, if this is the tank and it is significantly better equipped than the rest of the group, things can go really wrong.

In addition, the scaling in the time walking dungeons is sometimes a bit strange or simply buggy. Because if characters are not yet at maximum level, their strength actually scales. In the case of mind control, however, this was probably not the case. Therefore, the druid with item level 630 was able to plow through his comrades and emerge victorious in the end.

In many modern battles, this mind control comes with some restrictions, so that characters who have been taken over are hardly able to overpower their fellow combatants.

Even in the penultimate expansion of World of Warcraft, Shadowlands, quite amusing things could happen under mind control. Because a boss simply forced characters to use their hearthstone and leave the dungeon that way. Probably the smartest way to deal with angry adventurers.
