The Mississippi State Abortion Act is currently before the Supreme Court.
In the United States, the Oklahoma State House of Representatives has passed an abortion law that prohibits abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy in all cases except when the mother is in danger of death.
Republican Governor of Oklahoma Kevin Stittin the law has yet to be passed before it enters into force, which he is also expected to do.
Several Republican-led U.S. states, such as the neighboring state of Oklahoma, Texas, as well as Florida and Mississippi, have already passed similar laws severely restricting the right to abortion.
The decision of the state of Mississippi is currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court. A decision on the matter is expected in June.
Republicans hope the Supreme Court will now reverse the 1973 decision guaranteeing the right to abortion, as the Supreme Court now consists of six Conservative and three Liberal judges.
