Sprint in the Swedish premiere in Gällivare.
Then came the great talent Alvar Myhlback, 17, third.
– I have a hard time seeing how they are going to keep him out of the World Cup, says Anders Blomquist in SVT’s broadcast.
During Friday, it was finally time for the Swedish premiere in cross-country skiing. First out of the weekend’s competitions was the sprint. On the women’s side won Jonna Sundling as expected, and on the men’s side Marcus Grate.

After third place, Myhlback has mixed feelings.
– I haven’t improved one position in a whole year, jokes the 17-year-old before continuing:
– I feel incredibly good today and am getting better and better throughout the race. Then I knew that if I am in the sprint, I will be incredibly difficult to beat. Then I fail that task, so it’s a bit sad. But it’s a very nice start to the season anyway, says Myhlback to SVT.
Blomquist’s tribute
On the other hand, the young talent is highly praised by the ski experts for his performance.
– He is not satisfied with being third in the season opener. That says a lot. But the speed he gets up in the semi-finals… You can’t find any references because you haven’t seen a guy who invests in this way. It’s fascinating!, says expert commentator Anders Blomquist in SVT’s broadcast.

It was particularly Myhlback’s final sprint in the semi-finals, where he finished first, that impressed the experts. Then the 17-year-old sprinted for both Marcus Grate and Calle Halfvarsson.
– It’s absolutely incredible, he crosses Calle Halfvarsson and rides side by side with Grate, he’s absolutely incredible, this guy, says Jacob Hardcommentator.
– Oh oh oh, he plays with them, says Blomquist, who after the competition says:
– I have a hard time seeing how they are going to keep him out of the World Cup. He deserves to go there.
