The SF role-playing game Starfield has on 11.6. gave a 50 minute presentation. In the process, fans of the game also saw an old acquaintance: the “super fan” from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (2006) is back and he loves the player more than ever. Bethesda’s inside gag was a hidden highlight of the presentation for many fans.
What kind of NPC is this?
Starfield was the highlight of Xbox’s “quasi-E3” press conference for many:
How do you know that? The NPC is from Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. There he ran after the player after he was successful in the arena.
As PC Gamer points out, 17 years ago it could be made into a companion that was completely useless and kept dying, but reappeared a short time later.
In the role-playing classic, too, he showered the player with constant ass-kissing and admiration. He offered to carry the player’s guns, clean his guns, and generally worship him.
There he comes running:
How will you get him in Starfield? It is optional. You can either unlock it with a trait or not. Even Bethesda declares that whoever unlocks him for the “Gifts” must also endure his constant chatter.
“Bethesda knows their fans so well”
How does that go down with the fans? Very good. The biggest thread on reddit is currently “Oh God, not that one again” with over 7,000 upvotes and almost 500 comments:
A second scene from the show is particularly celebrated. Bethesda said traits can also be removed. It shows the fan in front of a cliff and apparently seconds before his murder.
This is an allusion to a YouTube video for Elder Scrolls (via youtube), which has now achieved cult status.
Apparently love can hurt.
