“This is the next step in a hugely exciting journey for the country. Last week we announced that we have the ambition to host the WC in 2034 and with this formal application the journey continues,” says SAFF chairman Yasser al-Misehal in A statement.
Due to Fifa’s policy that the tournament should be rotated between the different continents, only countries from Asia and Oceania are eligible to host the WC 2034.
If anyone wants to challenge Saudi Arabia, an official application must be submitted by October 31 this year. Australia is the only country, apart from Saudi Arabia, that has so far announced it is looking into the possibility.
However, the Asian Football Confederation, which also includes Australia, has already expressed its support for the Saudi World Cup bid.
