Officers stun pipe-wielding man: Chatham-Kent police

Officers used a stun gun to subdue a man wielding a steel pipe in a clash Thursday, Chatham-Kent police say.

Officers were sent to conduct a well-being check about 4 pm after screams were heard from an apartment on Queen Street in Chatham, police said.

Officers encountered a man who was “highly intoxicated and behaving aggressively,” police said.

Officers tried to ensure his safety, but the man grabbed a steel pipe, held it in a threatening manner and refused to comply with “repeated requests to the drop the pipe,” police said.

Officers used a stun gun to safely apprehend the man, police said. There were no injuries.

A Chatham man, 55, is charged with assaulting a peace officer and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, police said. He was released with conditions and a Dec. 4 court date.

Argument leads to man being charged

A man has been charged after clashing with a woman in Chatham, police say.

Officers called to a Sudbury Drive address about 1:30 pm learned a man had shoved a woman twice during an argument, police said. The woman then contacted a friend.

A Chatham man, 35, is charged with two counts of assault, police said. He was released with conditions and a Dec. 4 court date.
