The deer are doing remarkably well at the Leersumse Veld. Forest ranger Roel van Ark of Staatsbosbeheer likes to watch the deer population early in the morning. “They are creatures of habit,” explains Van Ark. “And they have their own territory, so you usually know roughly where they are. But they remain wild animals, so they sometimes don’t show themselves, you know.”
Of course Zoëy: “The deer is easy to see from the paths, but keep the dog on a leash.”
