For several months, tensions between France and Algeria have been at the highest. An illustration of the overall crisis that Algiers has been going through in recent years, has weakening on the diplomatic scene, economic difficulty and contestation of the power in place.
Everyone knows the G7, this group of seven countries among the most powerful in the world: Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom. To compete and weigh in front of this septuor, some countries decided to ally in 2009: the BRICS. They bring together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The group expanded in 2023, becoming the BRICS+. They are now ten, with Iran, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Ethiopia.
If we talk to you, it is because Algeria was also joined by the organization. But in August 2023, at the Johannesburg summit, Algiers was not invited to join this circle. The country is criticized for not having a fairly diverse economy and depending on hydrocarbons too much. Yet in good position for integration, the Algerian file is withdrawn at the last minute …
A camouflet that illustrates the isolation of Algeria on the diplomatic scene. At the local as an international level, its weight gradually declines.
