Occitan rock De La Crau and #Session Live Kandy Guira

In July 2021, the show went to the Suds festival in Arles where we met Sam Karpienia. On the occasion of his coming to Paris for a concert at the Consulate, we invite you to listen to the life and work of Sam.

From the Crau has been working for 4 years on a repertoire anchored in the reality of a Provençal geography located between Marseille, the perimeter of the Etang de Berre and the industrialized plain of La Crau, a rocky land with a rough and stocky charm. De la Crau defolklorizes Provençal to give it its place in the Sono Mondiale current, a musical current made up of hybridizations between local and global. This journey initiated by Sam Karpienia twenty years ago is expressed today with this new EP Temperi.

FROM THE CRAU is a group from Marseille with Rock, Folk, Punk influences, mixed with modern poetry. A sober universe, with contained power, melodies crossed by poetry with a thousand faces. Sam Karpienia sings a rough and off-ground Provençal distorted by looping riffs of electric guitars. Thomas Lippens hammers the trance with percussion and scrap wood. Manu Reymond on the double bass makes his bow creak and bite in syncopated rhythmic sequences leading to ecstasy. This training reveals Occitan in a categorically modern dimension. The music with rock influences and the powerful voice rise between mandola (acoustic or electric), guitar (alternating), drums and double bass to claim the alliance between Occitan, Mediterranean heritage and contemporary music.

From La Crau 2021.

After Gacha Empega and its Provençal polyphonies, Bread and its Occitan electro rock, Forabandit the Occitan-Turkish-Marseille acoustic trio, Sam Karpienia invent with Manu Reymond and Thomas Lippens a new Provençal epic, De la Crau.

De La Crau (Franck Pourcel) and Kandy Guira (veevcom).

Then we receive Kandy Guira in trio formula for the #SessionLive which presents his new album Nagtaba (“Together”).

The Scrapbook Nagtaba : “Together”, is a colourful, powerful and luminous, militant and festive album. It is a call to union, to dance, to trance!

In Nagtaba resound the “bendrés” (drums of Faso), the “tchema” (metal bell), the electronic loops, and the powerful basses like a bridge between the 2 continents on which Kandy sails.

We discover prestigious guests: Alif Nabaa, Jowee Omicil, floby and Mai Lengani.

Oumou Sangaré said of Kandy: “the future star of Africa”; this album will undeniably shine Kandy Guira in the firmament!
