“Obviously it’s special”

The Malmö FF midfielder was ready for Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt last week and according to Aftonbladet, the price tag should be SEK 130 million. Even MFF has said that it is the biggest player deal that a Swedish club has done.

The previous record was held by AIK, which received around SEK 90 million from Borussia Dortmund in 2017 for the signing of Alexander Isak. The previous club record in MFF was held by a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who in 2001 was sold for around SEK 82 million to Ajax.

No Zlatan tribute

During Sunday, Ibrahimovic announced that he is ending his football career, but Sweden’s all-time leading men’s player did not receive a tribute at the Eleda stadium when MFF met Degerfors. The 41-year-old had to settle for good luck in MFF’s social media channels – the relationship with MFF and its supporters has been strained since Ibrahimovic invested in Allsvenskan competitor Hammarby a few years ago.

Hugo Larsson, on the other hand, received a tribute, who thanked the crowd by netting when MFF drove over Degerfors with 5-0.

“If I had known before that it would turn out like this, I wouldn’t have believed it,” says Hugo Larsson after the tributes, the club’s farewell and the lap of honor at the stadium.

Hugo Bolin – the 19-year-old who made his first Allsvenskan match from the start – was the forward for Larsson’s last goal in front of the home crowd.

— A perfect delivery of the Hugo role, says Larsson and laughs.

— He did incredibly well. I am happy that one of my best friends gets to introduce himself on this stage. We in there know how good he is, but now the whole of Sweden knows it too.

Larsson also had to give a speech in front of the large crowd after the match, but was not immediately happy with the measure.

— I avoid it at school. So giving a speech here in front of 20,000… I think I nailed it okay. It was a lesson, perhaps, he says and laughs.

Going to a student party

When he met writing journalists, he was already changed to go to a friend’s graduation party.

— We have training tomorrow at 11, so it will be quiet, he says and laughs.

18-year-old Larsson himself will graduate on Friday. He has been given time off from training and will go up to Saturday’s away match against Värnamo on the day of the match. It will be his last appearance in MFF for this time.

— It is clear that it is special, but I have a long way to go. This is just a step on the way and it will be incredibly fun to test yourself in the Bundesliga, says Hugo Larsson.
