While Lucasfilm is taking the time to prepare for the return of Star Wars to the cinema, it has been on the small screen that the saga has been developing in recent years. On Disney++, the success of The Mandalorian has given ideas to the studio which has announced a host of spin-offs and other projects in the galaxy far, far away. Among the most anticipated projects, an Obi-Wan Kenobi series marks the return of Ewan McGregor as the Jedi Master as well as Hayden Christensen as his fallen apprentice, Anakin Skywalker. The series is set ten years after Revenge of the Sith and is directed by Deborah Chow, who previously directed two episodes of Season 1 of The Mandalorian.
Long rumored, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series was made official on August 24, 2019 during the D23 Expo with the announcement of the return of Ewan McGregor in the title role. In December 2020, Lucasfilm confirmed that Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prelogy, would be in the series in the role of the Chosen of the Force become Darth Vader. At the end of March 2021, the production studio announced the start of filming for the series for the month of April as well as its cast. After the publication of some rumors about a broadcast in May 2022 on Disney+, Lucasfilm made the news official: it’s the May 27 that the Obi Wan Kenobi series begins its broadcast on Disney+ with its first two episodes. The following four are then broadcast at the rate of one per week.

Produced by Lucasfilm, the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series is an exclusive broadcast on the Disney+ streaming platform. The six episodes of the mini-series dedicated to the Jedi master can therefore only be found on the Mickey’s house platform for a monthly subscription.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series sees Ewan McGregor take over the mantle of the Jedi master he had camped in George Lucas’ second trilogy (The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith). In this six-episode miniseries, Obi-Wan Kenobi finds himself on Tatooine as he plays guardian to a young Luke Skywalker who is yet unaware of his existence. Meanwhile, he is wanted across the galaxy by Empire forces seeking to incapacitate the Jedi on orders from Palpatine and Darth Vader.
The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is therefore located between episode 3 (Revenge of the Sith) and episode 4 (A New Hope) of the Star Wars saga. To be precise, the Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi series takes place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, at a time when Kenobi is wanted by the Empire and recluse on Tatooine. It has therefore been ten years since Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen, who reprises his role in the series) went over to the Dark Side and became Darth Vader, the Emperor’s right-hand man. It is therefore a period when Kenobi must hide his true identity as a Jedi master since they are chased across the galaxy on the orders of the Emperor by Darth Vader but also the Inquisitors in his pay. Dressed in black, the Inquisitors are Force-sensitive beings armed with red-bladed lightsabers that they use to fight the last remaining Jedi since the execution of Order 66.
At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan separated Anakin’s twins, his former padawan and friend, Leia and Luke, so their father wouldn’t find them. Leia has become a princess on the planet Alderaan while Luke has been entrusted to his uncle Owen Lars (Joel Edgerton) on his farm in Tatooine. Owen Lars is also not necessarily very favorable to the future education of Luke in things of the Force, unlike Obi-Wan. Never mind, Kenobi is watching over them from afar to prevent anything from happening to Luke, who could be the one to bring balance back to the Force. It must be said that Tatooine is a dangerous planet: in addition to the Empire which is looking for Obi-Wan everywhere in the galaxy, it is also necessary to count on the various scoundrels who populate the planet, the henchmen of Jabba the Hutt but also the famous Tusken , or men of the sands.
Difficult to make a series dedicated to Obi-Wan Kenobi between episodes 3 and 4 of the Star Wars saga without mentioning his fallen apprentice Anakin Skywalker who became Darth Vader. The lord of the Sith is very present in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and should probably pit him against his former master. For the occasion, Hayden Christensen, who played Anakin Skywalker in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, returns to his role after 17 years of absence in the saga.
The whole point of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s presence is that he can protect Luke Skywalker from dangers beyond him and specifically to prevent Darth Vader from getting his hands on his son. The series taking place 10 years after Revenge of the Sith, Luke Skywalker is therefore 10 years old in the series Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi. For the occasion, he is played by the young actor Grant Feely. He had previously been seen in the music video for the title “In The End” by singer Stephen DeFrancesco but also in the Creepshow series. After the announcement of his participation in the series, the young actor was dubbed by Mark Hamill, original interpreter of Luke Skywalker in the original trilogy. On Twitter, the star had welcomed him in these words “Grant Feely looks like the perfect Luke Skywalker to me. I wish him the best! May the Force be with Feely!”
