Oathbreaker Build – Everything about attribute points, talents and spells

In Baldur’s Gate 3, the Oathbreaker is a paladin who has broken his oath. Should you have broken your oath, you will be assigned a new sub-class and with it new spells. We’ll show you everything about the Oathbreaker build.

What is the Oathbreaker? The Oathbreaker or Oathbreaker is a subclass of the Paladin. This will be assigned to you if you break your sworn oath.

The “evil” paladin is known for its high damage, aggressiveness, and unique abilities that make it a powerful warrior in battle.

How do I become an Oathbreaker? To break your oath, you must attack or kill an innocent NPC. If you have broken your oath, the Oathbreaker Knight will appear in your camp. Once there, he gives his lecture and you will be branded. This process will replace your previous subclass.

Now you have the opportunity to embark on a dark path and benefit from the Oathbreaker’s new abilities.

In the following part we will show you which attribute points, talents and spells you should focus on if you want to play the Oathbreaker.

Oathbreaker Build: Attribute Points

Which attributes should I focus on? With your paladin, you should primarily focus on charisma and secondarily on strength. Constitution could be worthwhile as a third attribute, since this value gives you more life points.

When it comes to the attributes, make sure that you pay attention to even numbers instead of odd numbers, otherwise you will not benefit from improved dice values. You can find more about the attributes in our overview.

Oathbreaker Build: Talents

How does talent work? In Baldur’s Gate 3, at levels 4, 8, and 12, you can choose a talent to add to your build. However, if you don’t like a talent, you can instead put 2 points in your desired attributes again.

What talents do I need? In this case, we advise you to rely on the following talents per level:

  • Level 4: Not a talent, but improving skills
  • Charisma should be brought to level 16. Remaining points can be invested in strength and constitution.
  • Level 8: Heavy Weapons Mastery
  • function: Causes when you kill a creature or land a critical hit (20 rolled) that you can still use your bonus action to cast a main attack. You can also take -5 on your hit roll if you want (you roll first to hit and you have to match at least the opponent’s armor class). If you hit despite the -5, you can pack 10 additional damage points on top of the damage rolled normally.
  • Level 12: Striker
  • Function: When you use your action to dash, you can perform a melee attack or knock a creature away as a bonus action. If you have traveled at least 10 feet in a straight line before taking this bonus action, you either get a +5 bonus on your damage roll (if you chose the melee attack and hit) or you knock the target up to 10 feet away from you (if you decided to push the opponent away and succeed).
  • In our overview you will find a ranking of all talents and which are the best for all classes.

    Oathbreaker Build: Spells

Even as an Oathbreaker, your previous spells remain in your repertoire. Nevertheless, there are new options that you get thanks to your dark side. You should use the following spells as Oathbreakers:

  • Heal wounds (take it with you if possible)
  • After you break your oath, you have a good option to heal yourself with “Mend Wounds”.
  • Forced Duel
  • Make sure you can provoke enemies and draw them towards you, so your comrades suffer less from attacks
  • Thundering and Searing Smite
  • These attacks can knock opponents down or engulf them in flames. especially good against stronger opponents
  • Protection from good and evil
  • With this spell you can protect yourself or your comrades from aberrations, celestials, elementals, fey, undead and fiends
  • Bless
  • Gives you and three comrades a 1d4 bonus to attack and saving throws
  • heroism
  • Gives an ally 5 points in health per turn – Up to 10 turns possible
  • Those were the main things if you’re in the mood for an Oathbreaker. If you want to reset your skills, visit the “Withered” in the camp. He can help you with your project for 100 gold pieces.
