The in-form 27-year-old was also the one who started the scoring when he received a puck in a numerical advantage three minutes into the first period.
Visiting Calgary managed to equalize a few minutes later through Conor Zary before Calle Järnkrok gave the home team the lead again, his fourth goal and ninth point of the season.
In the middle act, the home team pulled away further thanks to a goal from Nylander – with one less man on the ice – and one from John Tavares with an assist signed by Nylander.
However, the visitors came back and managed to reduce twice before the end of the period. Early in the third, the equalizer also came when Martin Pospisili struck via an assist from Mikael Backlund.
After a scoreless overtime, Toronto won on penalties 5–4.
With the night’s scoring, Nylander has scored 21 points in 14 games and is now fifth in the scoring league, which is topped by Vancouver’s Elias Pettersson.
Another Swede to net on the night was Joel Eriksson, who scored Minnesota’s final goal in the team’s 3–2 loss against Carolina.
Kevin Stenlund was also noted for a complete hit when he sent in 5-2 for Florida in the open box and thus nailed the final result.
