Nylander made history – to no avail

Andreas Englund and Adrian Kempe each had a goal as their Los Angeles defeated Toronto 4-1 away from home.

For Englund, it was the first career NHL goal. It came in his 89th game in the North American Hockey League.

— It feels fantastic. It’s been a long time since I scored my first game in the NHL, so it feels wonderful to finally score my first goal. After a while you start to wonder: Will I ever do one?, the 27-year-old adds nhl.com after the game.

Of Toronto’s six Swedish players, only William Nylander managed to score when he assisted John Tavares for the home team’s only goal.

Still, it was a special point for Nylander, who was initially not credited for the assist but was credited with it at the end of the game.

In doing so, he became the first player in Toronto history to start a season with points in nine straight games.

Before the game against Los Angeles, he tied the record, points in the first eight games, with Frank Mahovlich (1961–62 season), Lanny McDonald (1976–77) and John Anderson (1982–83).
