The digital healthcare provider Doktor24 has plans to get rid of all nurses who work with digital healthcare visits, reports Sveriges Television.
A digital assessment tool is already used at night, but the idea is to use the tool during the day as well. The company justifies the change as a waste of resources when the patient gets to see both a nurse and a doctor. But the Medical Association, among others, is critical and believes that it will instead mean unnecessary and costly doctor’s visits.
– You cannot replace nurses in this way. It will be wrong for the patient and for the regions’ bleeding economy, says Marina Tuutma, president of the Medical Association and who points out that a doctor’s visit costs almost twice as much as a nurse’s visit for the regions.
According to information to SVT, there are also concerns within Doktor24 about patient safety, something that CEO Matilda Lundblad, however, believes is unfounded.
– We have not had any significant deviations that indicated patient risk, she tells SVT.
