Aydemir says that the mosque has mainly had to deal with nuisance from so-called safelanders in the last six months. These are people who cannot claim refugee status and therefore have to return to their country of origin. “They come to the mosque from their cultural background, but 90 percent do not come to pray. They want to shower, change, eat and sleep. We want to help everyone, but these people are extremely aggressive. They use verbal and physical violence. Shopkeepers in the area are also affected. A lot is stolen. These people are aggressive, they have nothing to lose.”
