Nuclear the new UK plan it will be the largest

(Finance) – The British government has announced a new plan for nuclear which will be the “largest expansion of nuclear energy in the country in 70 years, to strengthen theenergy independence and achieve carbon emission targets”. In particular, the Civil Nuclear Roadmap involves the exploration of building a new central£300m of investment to produce a fuel advanced to uranium and a “smarter regulation“.

Overall, these measures would bring the installed capacity of nuclear energy in the UK by 2050 to 24 gigawattsfour times that installed today and capable of supplying a quarter of the country’s electricity needs.

“Nuclear is the perfect antidote to the energy challenges facing Britain – it is green, cheaper in the long run and will ensure the UK’s energy security,” the Prime Minister said Rishi Sunak. “This is the right long-term decision and is the next step in our commitment to nuclear energy, putting us on track to reach net zero by 2050 in a measured and sustainable way,” he added.
