For their part, Iranian officials have rejected any pressure against the country’s nuclear program. “Any resolution adopted by the IAEA Board of Governors against the nuclear program of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be subject to immediate countermeasures and reaction,” announced the head of the Iranian Organization of the atomic energy, Mohammad Eslami. A statement which comes as France, Germany and Great Britain prepare a resolution against Tehran’s nuclear program, which should facilitate the sending of the Iranian file to the United Nations Security Council.

This visit by the head of the IAEA comes before Donald Trump’s return to the White House. In 2018, the latter had already left the nuclear agreement and imposed very harsh sanctions against Iran. With its new team, notably composed of the next Secretary of State Marco Rubio, a supporter of a hard line towards Iran and China, the United States had to further toughen its tone towards Tehran .
