LIVE: This is how the investigation into the race in Stenungsund goes – press meeting with police and prosecutors

After the large landslide on the E6 in Stenungsund, which destroyed a central road in the region, several investigations into the incident were launched, including from the National Accident Commission and the police.

TV4 Nyheterna was previously able to report that two people were arrested on Wednesday, suspected of gross negligence, causing bodily harm and unauthorized environmental activities. A third person was released after questioning.

– The two arrested have been released, says chief prosecutor Daniel Veivo Pettersson during Wednesday afternoon.

Suspicions remain, however, and all deny wrongdoing. At Thursday’s press conference, chief prosecutor Daniel Veivo Pettersson and investigator Ulf Andreasson commented.

According to the chief prosecutor, there is a great deal of interest and from the mass media and the public, of which they are now choosing to comment on the investigation before the trial.

He emphasizes that the cause of the landslide is still being investigated – by several authorities and that there is cooperation between the authorities.

Caused by human activity

According to him, the current assessment is that the landslide has been caused by human activity.

– Several human activities were taking place in the area at the time of the landslide. Among other things, the establishment of a business park that we call up on the hill east of the E6 and a new building west of the E6.

– At the moment, the suspicion is that it is the activity up at the height that has caused the landslide, says Veivo Pettersson.

The reason, he believes, is that the landslide seems to have started on a hill to the east of the motorway. Several experts also corroborate that thesis, he believes.

– In the media and social forums, it was written after the landslide about an extensive dumping of soil up on the hill some time before the landslide. People claimed to have reacted to this and extensive truck traffic in the area. That phenomenon has also been pointed out in other ways, continues the chief prosecutor.

Currently, the assessment is that no other human activities in the area have had an impact on the landslide.

Connects to construction site

All three are connected, according to TV4 Nyhetern’s information, to the construction site next to E6. A planned construction of a business park for industry, warehouses and offices was underway there.

– We have had a criminal investigation that has been going on for a number of months and it is the work in that investigation that means that the suspicions have now been built up and that we can act. But what exactly grounds the suspicions, I am waiting to explain in more detail, said chief prosecutor Daniel Veivo Pettersson during the Wednesday afternoon.

The two people who were arrested were first detained, in connection with house searches. Both phones, computers and papers were seized.
