For a long time it was unclear whether we would ever see another Tron film in theaters. The last entry in the science fiction series from Disney was over a decade ago. Tron: Legacy opened in cinemas in 2010 and was particularly impressive at the time 3D effects. Part 3 has still been a long time coming.
Filming for Tron: Ares has been underway since the beginning of the year, which once again brings us into the stylish world of a video game kidnapped where people fight against computer programs. After there were already two snapshots of the Tron 3 set, today we receive the first official image from the hotly anticipated sci-fi sequel.

Two details are particularly exciting: On the one hand, there is the coloring of the image. Tron 3 announces itself with one glowing, menacing red – a stark contrast to the previous films, in which the digital world came to life primarily in bluish images with yellow-orange color accents.

On the other hand, there is an Easter egg hidden in the picture. Gizmodo’s Germain Lussier took a closer look at the data disc in Leto’s right hand and found the following inscription: Dillinger Systems. Edward Dillinger (David Warner) appeared in the first Tron film as the head of the tech company ENCOM.
He is the first villain in the series and received an heir in the second part, Edward Dillinger Jr. (Cillian Murphy). Apparently the Dillinger threat has still not been eliminated. Ares seems to be the one recent creation to be the antagonist family that poses a threat to the Tron characters.
Sci-Fi sequel: When does Tron 3 start in cinemas?
Filming for Tron: Ares is currently underway in Vancouver, Canada. A specific theatrical release has not yet been determined. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney is planning the sci-fi sequel 2025 to bring to the cinema. In addition to Leto, the cast includes Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan and Gillian Anderson. The film is directed by Pirates of the Caribbean 5 director Joachim Rønning.
