One of the automotive world’s most iconic cars is called the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL. Now a car owned by a Swedish collector will go under the hammer – in Florida, USA.

It takes place on Amelia Island, just outside of Jacksonville, Florida, USA.

A common thread running through The Amelia and similar events such as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este is that a line of collector cars always goes under the hammer.
In the case of The Amelia, it’s a series of auction houses selling a myriad of classic cars.
One of these is Gooding & Company which now offers one Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster for sale.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL was launched in 1957 in response to a cooling market for the famous gullwing, the coupé sibling of the 300 SL Roadster.
Launched specifically for California, the car was produced in 1,858 units, compared to 1,400 for the coupe.
The 300 SL Roadster for sale is from 1957 and is currently owned by a Swedish collector.

The auction house Gooding & Company describes the Swedish-owned car as “one of the finest 300 SLs we have ever offered at auction”.
The car has only had three owners since new and owner number two had the car in his possession for a full 54 years.
Everything is original and the condition of the car is phenomenal.
“This is one of the finest 300 SLs in existence,” continues the auction house.

This 300 SL Roadster is expected to go for between 2.2 and 2.8 million dollars, corresponding to between 23 and 29 million kroner.
The cut for a 300 SL Roadster is on around SEK 15 million, so the price of this piece truly indicates its condition and patina.
The “record” for a 300 SL Roadster is SEK 32.6 million. It is therefore not impossible that this Swedish Roadster breaks it.
The auction takes place on Amelia Island in Florida between February 29 and March 1.
