New year and new laws – from January 1, you may no longer throw your discarded old socks in the household waste. It is becoming more difficult to cheat on VAB and anonymous testimony is allowed in the courts.
Anonymous witnesses
Now witnesses will be able to be heard anonymously about suspected crimes that can lead to at least two years in prison. It can take place both during police investigations and in courts, if there is a tangible risk that the witness or the witness’ relatives will be exposed to serious crime.

Textile waste is sorted separately
All textile waste must be sorted and stored separately from other waste and left at municipal collection points. This also applies to private individuals and waste that consists of textile clothing, home textiles, interior textiles, textile bags and textile accessories.
More charging points
Heated buildings that are not residential buildings and that have more than 20 parking spaces must have at least one charging point for electric vehicles. The new thing is that the requirement does not only apply to new buildings but also to existing buildings. The charging points do not have to be accessible to the public.

Vab reports to the Swedish Tax Agency
Employers will be obliged to notify the Swedish Tax Agency every month when employees have been at home due to parental leave or caring for a sick child.
Strengthened rights for children
The Parental Code is amended to strengthen children’s protection against violence and other violations. The starting point must be what is best for the child in matters of custody, accommodation and access. Particular importance is attached to the risk of the child or someone else in the family being exposed to violence or other abuse.

Taxes are reduced
The tax on petrol and diesel is reduced. The employed tax credit is strengthened and for those with higher incomes the marginal tax is also reduced, as the phase-out of the employed tax credit for them is abolished. The tax is also reduced for pensioners.

More expensive with a blank loan
For loans without collateral, blank loans, the interest deduction will gradually be reduced. In the coming year, only 50 percent of the interest is deductible. In 2026, the interest deduction will disappear completely.

Root and root are tightened
The ceiling for root deductions, which temporarily stood at SEK 75,000, now returns to SEK 50,000. Temporarily, there have been separate ceilings for root and box deductions, but now the common ceiling is back. The maximum deduction for root and square deductions is SEK 75,000 from the turn of the year.
