After a period of milder weather, a white winter looks to be on its way. According to SMHI, residents in most parts of the country can expect both snowfall and freezing temperatures during the next week.
— This week we have had a powerful high pressure ridge over Scandinavia, but now both it and a low pressure ridge over the Atlantic appear to be moving. This in turn causes cold air to come down on us, says Therese Fougman, meteorologist at SMHI.
In the main, the snowfall is expected to move in during the middle of the week – and settle from north to south.
— It will probably be a few centimeters. It probably won’t snow exactly everywhere, but large parts of Norrland look set to get it, and so will Svealand and Götaland. It may actually snow all the way down towards Skåne and southern Halland.
TT: Will the snow stay then?
— The forecast I have now extends until the Monday before Lucia. According to it, the snow looks like it will stay. But what happens remains to be seen, says Therese Fougman.
In a number of places in Sweden, temperatures are expected to be just around ten degrees below zero. One such example is Dalarna.
— It looks like there could be a bit of a weather change now with temperatures below normal next week, says Therese Fougman.
— It will have a bit more of a winter feel, absolutely.
