Yi Yi was born in January 2018 and Sheng Yi in May 2021. The siblings would have moved to China already when they turned two, but the return home was postponed as a result of the corona pandemic.
The pandas are not the first to be sent to another country. Since 1941, China has used pandas as a political and diplomatic tool to improve relations with the West.
