In some parts of the world, people have already said goodbye to 2024 and welcomed 2025. In other places, people are getting ready for the New Year celebrations.

The small Pacific nation of Kiribati was the first to ring in the new year at 11 a.m. this morning, Swedish time. In the hours that followed, it also became 2025 in New Zealand.

In Sydney, the new year was traditionally rang in with fireworks at the opera house at 2 p.m. Swedish time.

Thousands gathered to watch the sky fill with color and glitter from nine tons of fireworks.

– To see all the beautiful colors and enjoy this experience with so many people in beautiful Australia, says retired nurse Ruth Rowse.

For others, 2025 brought bittersweet relief.

– It would have been nice if the world sort of fixed itself, says Stuart Edwards.

Last to celebrate the new year is the USA. In Los Angeles, the clock doesn’t strike 12 until tomorrow at 09.00 Swedish time.
