Now the favorite for the most sought after role in Hollywood

Elvis is coming to the cinema in a few weeks, but Hollywood is already working on the next biopic of a pop icon: Madonna. The auditions for the role should “grueling” have been and in terms of demands probably put any Marvel training in the shade. Now the favorite has been determined, who outperformed Black Widow star Florence Pugh, among others.

Netflix star Julia Garner is the favorite for the role of Madonna

Julia Garner, who recently starred in Netflix’s Inventing Anna and Ozark Season 4, has been offered the role of Queen of Pop Madonna. This is exclusively reported by Variety. Should Garner accept (that’s what it currently looks like), the New York-born actress faces one tremendous challenge. After all, she has to embody one of the most famous people in the world, singing and dancing.

The latter is one of the reasons why the casting process for the hotly contested role was so exhausting. Even for the preparation, the applicants had to train up to 11 hours a day with Madonna’s choreographer and finally Madonna herself, not to mention the audition in the face of the Queen of Pop. “You must be willing to do anything”, an insider explained of the grueling process (via THR). Julia Garner prevailed.

After Inventing Anna and Ozark, Julia Garner faces her biggest role

When Julia Garner takes on the role, the real stress begins for her. Because the next thing is several months of singing and dancing training. The highlight of the Untitled Madonna Biopics is supposed to be the Blonde Ambition Tour from 1990 that went down in history thanks to its staging (inspired, among other things, by the German sci-fi film Metropolis) and Jean-Paul Gaultier’s costumes. The set list included Madonna classics like Like a Virgin, Like a Prayer, Papa Don’t Preach and Material Girl – all of which the chosen actress must perform convincingly.

For Julia Garner, the Madonna role would be another step towards Hollywood Olympus. The actress has appeared in supporting roles in numerous series, including Maniac and The Americans. She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Ruth in the Ozark. She had one of her first major leading roles in the drama The Assistant and she celebrated her final breakthrough this year as Anna Sorokin in the Netflix series Inventing Anna.

The Madonna film has not yet been released in cinemas. From June 23, 2022, you can see for yourself whether Austin Butler will believably embody the King of Rock in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis.
