“Now she has to call Petter Northug”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Frida Karlsson won the Tour de Ski but collapsed on the coup.
Now a Norwegian expert believes that she has a lot to learn – from Petter Northug.
“She should call him for advice,” writes TV2’s Petter Skinstad.

It was dramatic footage to say the least that unfolded after the Tour de Ski’s monster climb ended. Frida Karlsson had decided to become the first Swede to win the Tour de Ski since Charlotte Kalla, and when she crossed the finish line she was so tired and exhausted that she collapsed.

Advice to Frida

Many were scared and worried when Karlsson lay seemingly completely motionless in the goal area, and she was helped on a stretcher from there. Karlsson herself said that she was scared afterwards, and she was not alone. The question now is how Karlsson recovers, and how she will be prepared in the best possible way for the upcoming WC, which is right around the corner.

Now Karlsson gets sharp advice from expert Petter Skinstad, who on TV2 devotes an entire column to what happened to Karlsson, and how she will come back from it. And he suggests that she call a certain Petter Northug for advice.

“Now more than just blueberry soup is needed for Frida. Seldom has the need for vacation been greater. Then it might not be so stupid to ask a certain Petter Northug for advice, because no skier has ever been better at resting,” he writes.

“Can still fight for gold”

Skinstad believes that Petter Northug, one of the greatest skiers of all time, was not only a master at training and competing, but also at resting. He knew exactly when he needed to recover, and which races he would stand over.

“When Petter was raging, he could go directly from the Alps to Gran Canaria. It didn’t take many days for the monster hill and snow to be replaced by a sunbed and 25 plus degrees. A week later, Northug came back and fought for WC gold.”

Skinstad believes that Frida Karlsson has every opportunity to do well in the upcoming world championships, but that she needs to do the right things now.

“Frida Karlsson can also fight for WC gold, and the key to that lies in resting like a world champion.”
