Now roaring off properly – after his worst performance in the World Cup in three years

The season has not started as planned for Sandra Näslund.
Then she directs criticism.
– As soon as you have a bad result, people should talk to you, says Näslund to Radiosporten.

Sandra Näslund has in recent years totally dominated skicross on the women’s side. The 27-year-old has basically won everything she’s put up for, and has thus been one of the most successful Swedish athletes in terms of merit.

Näslund’s defeat

The highlight came in 2022 when Näslund won Olympic gold in Beijing, just as expected. But she has also won three individual WC golds, and one WC gold in a team that she won together with David Mobärg. Both her most recent individual and team gold came earlier this year during the WC in Bakuriani, Georgia.

Even in the World Cup, there has been total dominance from Sandra Näslund, with 19 straight World Cup victories, and she has looked obvious in every competition. Until last week. Then Näslund unexpectedly came last in the final in Val Thoren. Vann did the German instead Daniel Maier.

The great anger

The shocking result was followed by an even bigger bang – Näslund didn’t even manage to make it to the finals of Arosa’s evening competition. It was the first time the skier missed a final in the World Cup since February 2020. Sandra still tries to see the positive.
– If you look at the sport, it’s probably in some way good that I shouldn’t be there and fight for the victories every time, she says to Radiosporten.

But there is also something that has upset the 27-year-old after the defeats.
– The media starts to get in touch again when things go badly, that’s the way it is. They don’t get in touch when things are going well. No one calls when I win and then immediately you have a bad result, then people have to talk to you, as it were, says Näslund to the radio channel’s website.
