From Monday 15 July and two weeks ahead, Kiruna Airport is closed. The reason is that the tracks must be renovated.
Approximately 35 flights will be affected by the closure, where, among other things, the upper layers of the runway will be milled away and new asphalt laid.
– It will have a radical impact on the hospitality industry, but it is absolutely necessary for flight safety, airport manager Andreas Fredriksson has previously told SVT Norrbotten.
“Difficult situation”
Many people will be affected and have to find alternative travel routes.
– The hospitality industry is radically affected, it’s a difficult situation, says Fredriksson.
Last winter, Kiruna Lapland was not completely satisfied with the closure.
– We have enough challenges with the train traffic up to Kiruna and the mountain world so that the airport closing has negative consequences for the hospitality industry, CEO Peter Salomonsson told P4 Norrbotten.
